Collaborative Learning for New Complexity Teams
Complexity teams have now been formed and are beginning to function within schools. Teams are learning their roles and working collaboratively to begin delivering targeted interventions. Professional development is underway, with all eight teams coming together this week to explore 'Inside the Learning Brain', learning about regulation, resilience and responsive practice. By translating learning into action, participants built shared understanding, common language and established a common foundation for the work ahead.
The focus of ongoing professional learning is on developing consistent practices and practical strategies to support students with increasingly diverse and complex needs. Through ongoing training, collaboration, and coaching, complexity teams will be positioned to work alongside school staff and respond flexibly to the unique contexts of each school. This work will continue to build capacity within classrooms and school communities, reinforcing our commitment to student wellbeing, safe learning environments, and responsive support for both students and staff.
We are able to move forward quickly with the complexity teams because of the strong capacity that already exists within our system. Our Director of Psychological Services, Claire Petersen, brings extensive expertise, alongside Chelsea Hallick, currently a vice principal at Herald School and a former member of the Alternative Learning Team. Both are trained to deliver complex professional development, including but not limited to Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model. By combining additional staff resources with this internal expertise, we are well positioned to deploy these services efficiently and effectively.
Anyone with questions about complexity teams is encouraged to connect with the school principal.
